For Immediate Release:

Indianapolis (August 25, 2008) – In support of Life Insurance Awareness Month (LIAM) and National 401(k) Day, the OneAmerica companies will host a public health fair from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and sessions on retirement planning from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday, Sept. 5 at the OneAmerica Tower, One American Square, Indianapolis.

A collaborative effort with the National Institute of Fitness and Sport (NIFS), the health fair will feature health screenings, nutrition information and tips for living a balanced life. To help tower employees and members of the public further understand the value of carrying life insurance, local producers from American United Life Insurance Company® (AUL), a OneAmerica company, will be available to answer questions and discuss options with a questionnaire that helps to calculate the amount of insurance a family might need to secure a strong financial future. For those interested in learning how to make informed retirement decisions, professionals from Russell Investments and American Century Investments will conduct onsite workshops.

“Everyday, employees of the OneAmerica companies do their part to help our customers proactively plan for a brighter future with life insurance, employee benefits and retirement services,” said Dayton H. Molendorp, OneAmerica chairman, president and CEO. ”By hosting this personal wellness event, we’re pleased to be giving our employees and members of the central Indiana community an opportunity to help themselves.”

The 2008 LIAM spokesman is singer, actor and producer Donnie Wahlberg, whose sister died at the age of 44 with a 16-year-old son and no life insurance. Fortunately, Wahlberg’s nephew was taken care of thanks to a strong, extended family support system and famous uncles who have been able to assist. To hear Wahlberg’s story, visit lifehappens.org.

According to LIMRA International, 68 million adult Americans have no life insurance and those with coverage have far less than most experts recommend to ensure a secure financial future for their families. With so many Americans in financially vulnerable situations today, the life insurance industry has created a month-long public awareness campaign aimed at encouraging the public to take stock of their life insurance needs. Life Insurance Awareness Month (LIAM) is an industry-wide effort coordinated by the nonprofit LIFE Foundation. Each year, LIFE is joined by more than 100 of the nation’s leading insurance companies and other industry groups to help promote LIAM.

The National 401(k) Day is an annual celebration spotlighting the importance of employer-sponsored profit sharing and 401(k) plans. As retirement follows the end of one’s professional career, National 401(k) Day follows Labor Day. In 2008, National 401(k) Day is officially on September 5, the Friday after Labor Day. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, profit sharing as a form of employee compensation has a long history in the United States. America’s first profit-sharing plan was introduced in 1794 at the New Geneva, Pa. glass works by Albert Gallatin. The glass works plan, like many early plans, was a cash profit-sharing plan.
