For Immediate Release:
Nashville, Tenn., (Oct. 16, 2008) – New IRS mandated 403(b) retirement plan regulations are shaking up the nonprofit world. Consequently, many area benefit administrators are in the dark when it comes to understanding how these new rules will affect their employees’ retirement plans. Effective Jan. 1, 2009, new 403(b) plan regulations include requirements for:
• Maintaining a written plan document, which takes effect Jan. 1, 2009
• Making asset transfers
• Offering universal availability
As the 2009 deadline nears, nonprofit plan sponsors are working to become compliant with the new regulations to avoid tax penalties. In an effort to educate area nonprofits on the new rules, A.D. Vallett & Co.; Lattimore Black Morgan & Cain, PC (LBMC) and AUL Retirement Services are joining forces to host a free informational seminar, Thursday, Oct. 30 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the LBMC conference room, 5250 Virginia Way, Brentwood, Tenn.
“The new 403(b) rules can be difficult to navigate and also can potentially leave area nonprofit organizations vulnerable to hefty IRS fines, said Darrin Yappen, regional sales director for AUL Retirement Services. “The goal of this seminar is to bring together local nonprofit organizations and an advisory group of certified public accountants, attorneys, financial advisors and an experienced plan provider to offer insight into the 2009 regulations.”
Seminar participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss their concerns. Additionally, they’ll discover ways to better prepare and comply with the regulations.
